Partnering with us allows you to confidently address PFAS concerns and safeguard your products and brand reputation.

Compliance with International PFAS Regulations

PFAS, which stands for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are a large class of man-made chemicals used in a wide variety of products, including textiles, food packaging, construction materials, cosmetics, and firefighting foam. PFAS have also been linked to serious health issues and environmental pollution.

In response to these concerns, governments and consumer protection agencies around the world have introduced regulations and initiatives to reduce or eliminate the use of PFAS. Our PFAS testing services help you ensure compliance with both international regulations and voluntary standards regarding the use of PFAS in consumer products, including in the following regions.

European Union

In the European Union, several PFAS are already banned or restricted under regulations including but not limited to:

  • Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants
  • Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) Regulation
  • EU Food Contact Materials Regulation (EC No 1935/2004)

United States

In the United States, individual states, including but not limited to California, New York and Washington, have introduced their own PFAS bans and restrictions. Although there is currently no federal ban on PFAS in the US, many scientists, lawmakers, and advocacy groups are calling for stronger actions to protect public health and the environment from these harmful chemicals.

Other countries with laws regulating the use of PFAS include Australia, Canada, China, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and more.

In addition to mandatory government regulations, there exists a suite of voluntary standards related to the use of PFAS, implemented by industry bodies and associations including:

  • Apparel and Footwear International RSL Management Group (AFIRM)
  • American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA)
  • Oeko-Tex
  • BlueSign
  • Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS)
  • Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC)

Our experts understand the complex landscape of PFAS regulations and standards worldwide. We stay abreast of the latest requirements to help you navigate the intricacies of compliance.

PFAS Testing Expertise

As an established industry leader in quality assurance and lab testing, QIMA can help you ensure your products are in line with the current PFAS regulations of your target market, as well as help you stay up-to-date with evolving chemical compliance regulations.

Our advanced laboratories provide multiple testing types to provide you with precise insights into the presence of PFAS in your products.  As part of our consultation services, QIMA experts can advise you on product design and chemical management in your supply chain, helping you create high-quality and safe products that are compliant with PFAS restrictions.

We provide two types of PFAS testing:

Total Organic Fluorine Screening

This rapid, cost-effective approach for PFAS screening allows for quick identification of any PFAS presence in your samples.

Key features include:

  • Fast and economical screening process to provide results promptly
  • Threshold level determination to prioritize samples for more comprehensive analysis

Individual PFAS Analysis

This analysis employs an innovative analytical method to identify and quantify specific PFAS compounds in your products. We utilize advanced technology to detect up to 64 different PFAS compounds, with coverage continuously expanding as new substances are identified.

Benefits of our individual PFAS analysis include:

  • Comprehensive identification and quantification of specific PFAS compounds in your samples
  • High accuracy and precision with a low detection limit to ensure reliable results
  • Evaluation for compliance with both regulatory and voluntary standards, giving you confidence in meeting industry requirements

Our lab testing services can stand alone or be incorporated into your product inspection program to monitor the quality and compliance of your product at every manufacturing stage.
